“You are never going to feel ready in the flesh. Never. There will always be one more class, one more video, one more training, one more certification. Just one more thing you think you may need. That’s not wisdom, that’s fear dressed up as responsibility. God confirms before you feel ready.”

—Kishea Boyd

There comes a moment when comfort stops working and clarity starts asking harder questions. Staying put may look faithful on the outside while unrest grows quietly within. That unrest is often the doorway to growth.

In this episode, Keisha reflects on her own transition after retiring from the Coast Guard and the identity work that followed, showing how fear, delay, and self-doubt surface when calling moves from abstract to real.

Listen in for a grounded, spiritually honest conversation that helps untangle fear from obedience and identity from experience.

  • Spiritual growth and fear in God-led transitions
  • Why being stuck is often a mindset, not a location
  • How past experiences shape limiting beliefs
  • Fear as evidence that purpose is becoming tangible
  • Alignment as the pathway to peace

Kishea Boyd is a woman whose journey began not with triumph, but with a search—for identity, purpose, and the heart of God in every season. After serving over 20 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, where she honed resilience and leadership, she found her true strength not in uniform, but in faith. Rededicating her life to Christ in 1999 marked a turning point, leading her into ministry, mentorship, and a deeper understanding of who she was called to be. Through the joys of family life with her husband, Quinton, and their son, Kameron, and through the challenges that shaped her, Kishea has learned that God’s love never lets go. Today, she lives to help others rediscover identity, healing, and purpose through Him.

Hey, sis, I see you. The strong one, the faithful one. The woman who keeps showing up for everyone else while quietly wondering if anyone still sees her. You can breathe now. You’re safe here. I’m Kishea Boyd, The Identity Midwife. This podcast was created to help you rediscover who you are right in the middle of real life. Here, we talk about faith, healing, identity, and the gentle work of becoming. You don’t have to fix a thing, just lean in. You’ve been located.

Kishea Boyd: Hello, and welcome back. This is Kishea Boyd, and you’re listening to The Identity Midwife Podcast. I’m so glad you’re here. Thank you for taking the time to listen, whether you’re driving, sitting still, or just taking a moment for yourself. If this is your first time joining me, welcome. And if you’ve been walking with me for a while, thank you for coming back.

In the last episode, we talked about some great things, and we have some beautiful things to talk about in Episode 9. And within this episode, we’re going to talk about what it really means when God says you’ve been around this mountain long enough. We’re going to talk about the mindset fear that shows up right before breakthrough, and what happens when you know God is pulling you forward. What part of you is still holding on to what’s familiar? So take a breath, get comfortable, and let’s talk.

All right, let’s talk. This episode is for the woman who knows there’s more. You sense the calling. You hear God nudging you, but you haven’t moved. And it’s not because you’re lazy, it’s not because you don’t love God. It’s not because you’re not capable. It’s because you’ve been standing still around the same mountain. And when scripture says you’ve been around this mountain long enough, it’s not talking about a job, it’s talking about a mindset, a belief, something underneath the hesitation. So today, we’re not talking about what you do. We’re talking about why you won’t move.

Now, every mindset is rooted in a belief, and every belief started somewhere. There was a moment in your life when you wanted to step out and something stopped you. Someone said something didn’t work. You felt embarrassed. You decided something about yourself, and that belief has been running the show ever since. So now, every time God calls you higher, that belief whispers, you always quit. You never finish. What if this fails too? And instead of moving, you delay. Not because you’re unqualified, but because familiarity feels safer than obedience. Let me free you real quick. You are never going to feel ready in the flesh. Never. There will always be one more class, one more video, one more training, one more certification. Just one more thing you think you may need. That’s not wisdom, that’s fear dressed up as responsibility. God confirms before you feel ready. And sometimes, that confirmation looks like watching someone else finally move, and something in you lights up. That’s not jealousy, that’s confirmation.

Now let’s talk about what happens after you commit, because this is where most women panic. Right after you say yes, the thoughts come is, this is the right season? Can I afford this? What was I thinking? And notice those thoughts never show up when you’re just scrolling, watching Netflix, or staying busy. Fear doesn’t bother you when you’re stagnant. Fear shows up when destiny gets real. Delay doesn’t cancel calling. It just makes the journey longer. Trust me, I know then come the voices, well meaning people telling you why it’s not a good time, why it’s risky, why you should wait. And sometimes, the loudest fear comes from people who love you. I remember my husband saying to me, Babe, I’ve been with you for 14 years. I’ve watched you try a lot of things. But this right here, this is it. You finally found what God created you to do. That blessed my whole soul. Because after I retired from the military, after serving for 20 years in the Coast Guard, it took me a minute to really figure out what I wanted to do, or what God wanted me to do.

A lot of times, we do our own thing, and we end up twirling and staying around this same mountain like the Lord was talking about in the scriptures in Deuteronomy 1:6 when he says, you’ve been around this mountain long enough. It is time for you to move. And so when my husband said that, again, it blessed my whole soul. Because I tried so many things, but every step was preparing me for alignment.

***If your heart’s been heavy, if you’ve been searching for clarity or peace, I invite you to pause. Encounter Coaching is a one on one space where you can lay it all before Jesus and let him speak. Every encounter is different, but the outcome is always the same. Freedom, healing, and truth. Take the time. Give yourself this moment with the Father. The link is in the show notes.

You let me say this plainly, your body knows when you’re misaligned. Stagnation doesn’t just affect your mind. It shows up as tension, headaches, jaw clenching, neck and back pain, stress in your stomach. Peace comes with alignment, not comfort. This is where Crystal and Joy live. Crystal knows there’s more, but familiarity keeps pulling her back. Now, Joy is closer to the edge, but fear keeps her hesitating. Let me pause right here for a second, especially for those of you who are just meeting me, you might be thinking, who in the world is Crystal? Who is Joy? And why does she keep saying those names? Crystal and Joy are not specific people. They’re just names. They are the women that I’m called to so I just gave them a name. They’re the women God has shown me that I’m called to serve. So even if your name is Michelle, Lindsay, Aquanisha, Tamika, Tawana, Tamara, Sharia, whatever your name might be and you hear yourself in these descriptions, I’m talking to you.

Let me explain. Crystal is the woman who knows there’s more, but she’s tired. She’s been pouring, she’s been showing up for everyone else. She’s responsible. She’s faithful. She loves God. But internally, she feels so unseen, unchosen. She feels stuck. She keeps asking herself, is this really it? Did I miss my moment? Why do I feel this pull, but can’t seem to move? Crystal often struggles with self doubt, people pleasing, shrinking her voice, staying where it’s familiar even when it’s uncomfortable. She senses the call, but fear keeps her circling the same mountain. Now, Joy on the other hand is closer to movement. Joy knows God is calling her higher. She’s tasted freedom before. She’s had moments of clarity, but Joy is standing at the edge asking, what if I jump and it doesn’t work? What if I invest and I fail? What if I finally try and still don’t get it right? Joy’s pain points are fear of the unknown, fear of wasting time or money, fear of starting over again. She’s not doubting God, she’s doubting herself. So when I say Crystal and Joy, I’m not calling out names. I’m calling out seasons. And if you hear yourself in either one, then yes, I’m talking to you. What’s pulling them forward? They know their voice matters. What’s holding them back? The safety of what’s familiar, and the enemy does not want you realizing who you are. Because once you do, it gets real hard to keep you stuck.

Now, let’s talk about those. 2:00 to 3:00 AM wake ups. That’s not random. It’s quiet, no distractions, no noise. That’s when God says, daughter, come talk with me. Come sit with me. But you over there thinking you need water. You thinking you got to get up and go to the bathroom. But really, God wants communion. He wants connection. He builds relationships before the assignment. Now, I’ve watched people experience breakthroughs by asking Jesus one question, how does heaven see me? And when that question gets answered, things unlock. There’s peace, clarity, and calling. When it’s real, it flows naturally. And that’s authority. Here’s the truth, your obedience isn’t just about you. There are people attached to your yes, and your life gives others permission to move. Now, listen, I am not everybody’s cup of tea, and that’s okay. But if you’re teachable, honest and ready to grow, you’ll know.

And if this episode stirs something in you and you know you’re ready for clarity on who you are, who you called to reach, and how you’re meant to walk this out? I invite you to book a discovery call with me. No pressure, just alignment. And if this episode isn’t for you, share it with the woman because God will never call you without giving you the blueprint. And you’ve been around this mountain long enough. I’ll see you in the next episode. And remember, you did not stumble on this podcast by accident. God is very intentional because you’ve been located by The Identity Midwife. Before you go, take one more breath. The same God who shaped you still sees you. Every scar, every tear, every wind, nothing about your story is wasted. If today spoke to your heart, share with another woman who needs a reminder that she’s not alone. And when you’re ready to go deeper, everything you need is waiting for you in the show notes.. Until next time, I’m Kishea Boyd, The Identity Midwife. And daughter, you’ve been located.
